GAS ENGINEER
Background
Aisling Megahey, from Belfast, is a gas engineer with HEAT, a leading UK company which installs, maintains and services heating systems throughout Northern Ireland..
“I had gone back to grammar school with eight GCSEs to study for A levels but found I wasn’t really interested. I wanted to get a skill that would help me find an interesting career and had looked at a number of possible jobs, including welding, joinery and plumbing. I was always good at fixing things at home. Above all, I didn’t want to work in an office. I was looking, in particular, for a skilled job that would involve clean and interesting work outdoors."
“My next step was to find out more about various jobs from Springvale Training and to see which one suited me best. I was encouraged to consider a job as a gas engineer and my tutor suggested that I approach HEAT about an apprenticeship."
“I took his advice and was offered an apprenticeship following an interview. "
