Robert Nicholl, from Glengormley, is an apprentice car mechanic with the Isaac Agnew Mercedes-Benz dealership in Belfast. Here he explains why he chose to become a car mechanic.
"My decision to train as a car mechanic followed a week's work experience arranged by my careers teacher at Glengormley High School. I was interested in cars and computers at school and was keen to find out what the job was like."
"Work experience gave me a chance to try the job out and to see if it suited me. Although I was only doing basic things around the garage, shadowing a technician, I enjoyed it and wanted to find out more."
"I saw an advertisement in the Belfast Telegraph from Isaac Agnew for trainees and applied before the end of my GCSE year. I was then invited to take an aptitude test that involved knowledge of English, maths and other basic skills. I passed and then had to attend an interview. I was offered a job as a trainee."
